The story of BOBO

The story of BOBO

The Story of Bobo was developed in in 2005 and 2007 and consists of two animations. Central in the story-line is are the conversations between Bobo, who just found out he is HIV-positive, and the people around him. The first animation Be HIV free explains in a comprehensive way how HIV affects the human immune system. The subsequent animation Be AWARE, take CARE shows how HIV-medication (antiretrovirals, or ARV’s) work and what happens if one does not adhere to their medication.

The idea to develop animations came from the many questions that were asked about HIV by children, young people and adults who were playing the LOVE.check game. The animations were initially developed for children in Southern Africa, but later turned out to be also suitable for a more broader target group. The BOBO animations have been published in more than 20 languages.

The BOBO animations were developed in collaboration with Art students from the University of applied sciences in Hilversum (NL), several professionals and institutions. Artist Suzanna Lobrano sings in Be HIV free. The animations can be viewed through YouTube and have been published on dvd. For ordering the dvd’s, please contact us through the contact form.

The production of the animations was financially supported by Virgin Unite. See below what Sir Richard Branson had to say about the project.
